Stanley Eugene Vipond, son of Lester and Anna (Miller) Vipond, was born at his parent's home on October 2, 1927 in Roseville Township. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and attended Country School. On June 28, 1945 at the age of 17, Stan enlisted in the United States Navy, where he received his basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois. Following basic, Stan traveled to Cuba and Norfolk, VA aboard the U.S.S. Cleveland and U.S.S. Burdo. He received an honorable discharge on August 4, 1946. Stan and MaryAnn fulfilled their lifelong dream when they began farming near Herman in 1955, later purchasing "The Farm" in 1962. Stan was very fortunate to farm with his sons and grandsons and following his retirement he never missed a fall corn harvest in the combine.

For over 60 years, Stan was an active member of St. Charles' Catholic Church in Herman, where he served as an Usher, Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Gorton Township Board, Herman American Legion and numerous other boards and committees. Stan enjoyed playing cards, often being found playing Euchre, Whist, Poker or Shanghai. If he wasn't playing cards or working in the field, you might find him checking the garden or going to a sporting event of his grandchildren.
