Thelma Sullivan

July 6, 1919 — August 24, 2005

Thelma Vera Bratton, daughter of Harry and Grace (Jones) Bratton, was born July 6, 1919 in Bison, South Dakota, where she grew up and attended elementary and junior high school. The family then moved to the Herman, Minnesota area, where she continued her education and graduated from Herman High School in 1938. As a young girl she worked for several neighbors, helping to baby sit and doing several other various jobs. Following high school, Thelma moved to Kansas City, where she found a job packing parachutes for the military service. Thelma enlisted in the Women's Army Air Corp overseas from April 18, 1944 to April 25, 1946, serving in France and England, where she drove in the motor pool and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Thelma returned to Stevens County and worked at Electric Service in Morris. Thelma was united in marriage to Tim Sullivan on September 11, 1947. The couple made their home on a farm northwest of Morris, where they raised their six children.

Through out the years, Thelma had many projects and hobbies from doing various needlecrafts, to making scrapbooks of all kinds. Thelma enjoyed still living on the family farm, working in her garden and raising her pet chickens.

Thelma died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.

She is survived by four sons: John Sullivan, Randy Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan and Tom Sullivan, all of Morris; two daughters: Susan (Mark) Fitzgerald of Hancock and Patricia (Gary) Varnum of Morris; three grandchildren: Joseph Fitzgerald, Jake Varnum and Megan Fitzgerald; very special sister: Pearl (Gordy) Rasmusson of Benson; one sister-in-law: Edna Bratton of Morris and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and two brothers: Johnny and Ralph Bratton.

Pallbearers for the service are: John Sullivan, Randy Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan, Tom Sullivan, Joseph Fitzgerald and Jake Varnum. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
