Valborg Johnshoy

Valborg Dagny Reisrud, daughter of Christian and Gina (Evenson) Reisrud, was born July 29, 1914 in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County , Minnesota , where she grew up. She was baptized on September 20, 1914 by Reverend Nels Forde and confirmed on June 24, 1928 by Reverend G. O. Forde at the Immanuel Lutheran Church , rural Starbuck. She began her schooling at District #53 Country School and in 1931 she graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris , Minnesota . On November 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Martinus Herbert Johnshoy at her parent’s home in Blue Mounds Township by Reverend G. O. Forde. The couple lived and farmed in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County from the time of their marriage until 1960, when they moved to Starbuck. They remained in Starbuck until 1991, when they moved to Alexandria . Herbert passed away on November 5, 1999. Valborg continued to live in Alexandria and in 2005, she moved to Clearwater Suites, an Assisted Living Home, where she remained until the time of her passing.





She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church , teaching Sunday school, ladies aid member and a Luther League advisor. Valborg later became a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, where she was a member of the ladies aid, was in the church choir and assisted with the church treasures work. Valborg was also a member of the Farmers Union and the Starbuck Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, making and selling craft items and reading. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. As a mom, Vallory worked hard to nourish and provide for her family.





Valborg passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria , having lived to reach the age of 93 years.





She is survived by nine children: Herbert (Connie) Johnshoy of Bemidji, Lauris (Sharon) Johnshoy of Starbuck, Vernice (Maynard) Hoium of Alexandria, Sandra (Arvid) Larson of Bloomington, Delores (Warren) Huebner of Surprise, AZ, Glen (Dottie) Johnshoy of Missoula, MT, daughter-in-law: Lynne Johnshoy of Chaska, Nona (Dennis) Thackeray of Rochester, Brenda (Randy) DeGier of LaCrosse, WI and Randi Robinson of Chaska; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Johnshoy of Eagan and Gloria Johnshoy of Hancock. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: David Johnshoy; infant daughter: Irene; one grandson: Dr. Joel Hoium; one brother: Walter Reisrud and four sisters: Agnes Kamps, Clara Bennett, Nora Kamrud and Emma Reisrud.





Pallbearers for the service are Valborgs grandchildren: Laree Breen, Tom Johnshoy, Julie Holte, Brad Larson, Pam Wilbur, Glen Johnshoy Jr, Mike Johnshoy, Jason Thackeray, Andy DeGier and Krissy Boyer. Honorary pallbearers are all who called her grandma. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with Randy DeGeir providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
