Verna Schaefer

Verna Elizabeth Honegger, daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Moser) Honegger, was born January 24, 1921 in Forrest, Illinois, where she was baptized on July 28, 1940 at the Apostolic Christian Church. She received her schooling at Center Country School thru the 8th grade and then attended Forrest High School. Following her schooling, Verna worked 1A½ years in Fairbury, IL and nine years in Peoria, IL, doing housekeeping. On May 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to Anton Schaefer in Forrest, IL. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hancock, where they farmed until their retirement. They moved to Sky View Court in Morris in 2005.

Verna enjoyed gardening, cooking, tatting and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Verna died on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.

She is survived by her husband: Anton Schaefer of Morris; one daughter: Luanne Horning of Herman; two sons: Stanley (Beverly) Schaefer of Hancock and Rodney (Denise) Schaefer of Hancock; ten grandchildren: Anna and Bradley Horning; Jeffrey, Corey, Brent and Jason Schaefer and Stephanie, Darren, Mark and Philip Schaefer; two brothers: Harley (Lorraine) Honegger of Forrest, IL and John (Wilma) Honegger of Peoria, IL; four sisters: Oleda Menold of Morton, IL, Ruth (Lester) Roth of Forrest, IL, Marjorie (Wilbur) Schnieder of Ellington, CT and Donna Leman of Forrest, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter: Jane Marie; her parents; five brothers: Perry, Edward, Jesse, Max and Glen and one sister: Leona Tanner.

Pallbearers for the service are: Jeffrey Schaefer, Corey Schaefer, Brent Schaefer, Jason Schaefer, Bradley Horning, Darren Schaefer, Mark Schaefer and Philip Schaefer. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
