Vernon Erickson

Memorial services for Vernon Erickson of Glenwood will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at a later date at Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.

Vernon Allen Erickson, son of Newman and Mildred (Olson) Erickson was born on June 24, 1944 in Starbuck, Minnesota. He grew up on a family farm near Starbuck where he attended country school and later graduated from Starbuck High School. In 1965, Vernon entered the United States Army where he worked as a helicopter mechanic. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1967. Vernon was united in marriage to Carol Koenig on January 6, 1968 at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. The family moved to a farm near Glenwood, where Vern farmed and helped raise their three children. Carol passed away December 13, 1988. Vern later retired from farming and began work as a contractor. He worked as a contractor for over 20 years and worked up until December of 2013 when he fell ill. On September 4, 2012, Vern met his life partner Connie. The couple continued to live on the farm in Glenwood until the time of his death.

Vernon passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He lived to reach the age of 69 years.

Vern was a member of Fron Lutheran Church and the Starbuck V.F.W. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing, camping and 4-wheeling.

He also enjoyed rock n' roll music, playing guitar, spending time with family and trips to the casino. Vern will always be remembered for his pipe and his slogan "Damn it Jim"

Vernon is survived by one son: Blaire (Ginger) Erickson of Glenwood; one daughter: Pamela Erickson of Eckelson, ND; life partner: Connie Johnson and her children: Angie, Nikki, Katie and Cassie of Glenwood; three brothers: Harvey (Linda Lewis) Erickson of Akron, OH, Don (Eloise) Erickson of Starbuck and Mike (Mary) Erickson of Starbuck; three sisters: Marge Kleinhans of Morris, Beatrice (Don) Krussow of Hutchinson and June (Dan) Levandoski of Hopkins; two sisters-in-law: Phyllis Erickson of Glenwood and Bonnie Erickson of Starbuck; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; daughter, Lydi; two brothers, Dennis and Robert and brother-in-law, Jack Kleinhans.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
