Wayne Gunderson

Wayne Edward Louis Gunderson, son of Edward and Mabel (Hanson) Gunderson, was born December 2, 1944 in Geneva, Nebraska. At a young age his family moved to Benson, where he received his schooling. In April 1968, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge in April 1969, he returned to Benson. On September 30, 1972, he was united in marriage to Sheila R. Parker in Benson. To this union three children were born: Brett, Desiree and Nathan. Following their marriage, the couple moved to various cities in Minnesota. When they moved to Madison, Wayne worked for the Foundry Driving Truck Company.



Wayne was a life member of the Starbuck Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading, working on cars with his sons and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.



Wayne died on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, having lived to reach the age of 62 years.



He is survived by his wife: Sheila Gunderson of Starbuck; two sons: Brett Gunderson of Alexandria and Nathan Gunderson of Starbuck; one daughter: Desiree Gunderson of Brainerd; two sisters: Donna Goff of Benson and Linda Stauffacher of Benson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.



Sharon Olejnicek will serve as organist for the service with the Sacred Heart Church Choir providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
