Memorial services for Allowese Becker of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Following the memorial service, a celebration of Allowese’s life will continue. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris at a later date.

Allowese Louise Schulz, daughter of William and Louise (Thielke) Schulz, was born April 13, 1926 on a farm in Moyer Township, Swift County, Minnesota.  Allowese grew up near Holloway, Minnesota where she attended country school in Swift County until the 8th grade.  Following her schooling, she helped on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Melvin J. C. Becker on July 18, 1944 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway.  The couple made their home outside of Morris until the 1960’s when they moved to Morris. She operated a day care from her home until 1969.  At that time she started her three decade career in the Dietary Department at the Stevens County Hospital.  After her retirement, she continued to volunteer at the hospital gift shop.  Melvin preceded Allowese in death on December 4, 2007; she continued to reside in Morris until 2015, when she moved into the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.

Allowese was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Morris and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock.  She enjoyed reading, playing cards, puzzles, board games and flowers.  Allowese loved having coffee with friends and going out to eat at local restaurants.  Most importantly, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Allowese died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota.  She was 92 years old.

She is survived by her daughter: Holly (Brad) Svea of Starbuck; two grandchildren: Jesse (Ulla) Alama of Mainz, Germany and Jill (Michael) Hodsdon of Chaska; three great-grandchildren: Nora Alama, Mona Alama, and Reagan Hodsdon; nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; son, Loren Becker; parents; three brothers: Roland, William and Marvin Schulz; and one sister, Rita Kaehler; nieces and nephews.

The family of Allowese would like to thank the staff at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck for their exceptional care given to their Mother/Grandmother over the past three years and to Rice Hospice for their care the last 12 weeks.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
