Memorial services for Anjie Hagen will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the church.

Anjie Verna Hagen was born on March 16, 1923 in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota to Nels and Emma (Tiegen) Aaberg.  She was baptized at East Zion Lutheran Church by Reverend K.R. Palmer and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church by Reverend M.C. Johnshoy.  Anjie received her education in Starbuck and graduated with the Starbuck High School class of 1942.  She met Orville “Orvie” Hagen at Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood; the two began dating and were married in November of 1942 at Fron Lutheran Church while Orvie was on his Naval leave from Great Lakes, Wisconsin.  Anjie remained in Starbuck where she owned and operated Orvie’s Café for three years while Orvie was in the service.  He was discharged in 1946 after which they purchased a farm south of Starbuck in Barsness Township.  They lived there and farmed for seven years until 1956 when a coin toss determined that they would move to Anchorage, Alaska.  During that time, Anjie was employed at a department store – in the shoe department, she loved shoes!  While in Alaska, they celebrated its statehood and survived the “Easter Sunday” Earthquake on March 27, 1964.  After Orvie’s unexpected death in 1966, Anjie moved back to Starbuck and remained on the farm until the fall of 2010.  She then moved into an apartment in town and for the last two years has resided at Holly Ridge in Starbuck.

Anjie was a member of Fron Lutheran Church and was a Charter Member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She enjoyed many hobbies, including playing cards, word puzzles, knitting, dancing, skating, baking, gardening and especially coin collecting.

Anjie died on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at her home at Holly Ridge in Starbuck, Minnesota.  She lived to 95 years of age.

Anjie is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her special family: Mike and Deb, Tyler and Ricci, and Ana and Reid.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orvie; three brothers: Christ, Fred and Noel; and six sisters: Florence, Margaret, Manda, Alice, Marion and Olga.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of arrangements.
