Arnold Hollen

Arnold Hollen, son of Arnold Sr. and Myrtle (Danielson) Hollen, was born December 21, 1929 in Williston, North Dakota. At a young age, his family moved to Willmar, Minnesota where Arnie was confirmed at the Vinje Lutheran Church. He received his schooling in Willmar, where he graduated from Willmar High School in 1949. Arnie enlisted in the Navy in 1950, where he served in the Korean War as a Radar Operator aboard the destroyer USS Green. He received an honorable discharge in 1954. When he returned from the war, he continued his education at St. Cloud State University, where he received his teaching degree. On July 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jean Swenson at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. Arnie taught Science at Glyden Minnesota, Lake Wilson, Minnesota and eventually moved to Chokio, where he taught until his retirement in 1987. Arnie and Jean have continued to live in Chokio since that time.



Arnie was a former member of the Chokio American Legion. He loved classical music, refinishing furniture, feeding birds, crossword puzzles, rock collecting and deer hunting with his bow and arrow. He also taught archery. He was the founder of the "Hollen International Bird Port".



Arnie died on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 75 years.



He is survived by his wife: Jean Hollen of Chokio; three children: Heidi (John) Voz of Detroit Lakes, Ted (Jennifer) Hollen of Foley and Josh Hollen of Morris; four grandchildren: Abigail, Samuel and Joseph Voz and Ava Hollen and one sister: Donna Hollen-Bolmgren of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Charles Bolmgren.



Pallbearers for the service are: Joel Boldenow, Les Spaulding, Craig Swenson, Dean Monson, Neal Hofland and Richard Reimers. Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Erickson, Delly Scheldorf, George Dieter, Mike Berlinger and Lyle Swenson. Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
