Beverley Schmidt

The memorial mass for Beverley L. Schmidt, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the mass will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Morris.

Beverley Lou Vig, daughter of Benjamin and Elsie (Wenschlage) Vig was born on September 27, 1928 in Veblen, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Morris, Minnesota. When Beverley was a junior in high school she suffered a case of rheumatic fever and was unable to finish school. She was very proud to later earn her GED. After her schooling, Beverley worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell.  She was united in marriage to Albert Schmidt on June 30, 1951 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. The couple made their home in Morris where Beverley was a self-employed seamstress.  She not only altered and made dresses, but made many items of clothing, pillows, quilts and blankets. She also made many of her children’s clothes through the years. Beverley also taught a sewing class for many years at the University of Minnesota Morris. Albert died on November 27, 2013. Beverley continued to live in Morris. She was a resident at the West Wind Village at the time of her death.

Beverley was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and served as an election judge for many years. She also volunteered for “Meals on Wheels”. Dealing with many health issues through her life due to rheumatic fever, Beverley was very strong and never complained about what she was going through. She will be remembered as a gentle soul, who was very patient and wise.

Beverley died on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the West Wind Village, in Morris. She was 89 years old.

She is survived by three sons: Doug (Cher) Schmidt, Foley, MN, Dave Schmidt and Dwain (Kari) Schmidt, all of Morris, MN; three daughters: Deb (Michael Tkadlec) Caswell, Oakdale, MN, DeAnn (Brian) Rasbold, Broken Arrow, OK and Donna (Mark) Flesland, Alexandria, MN; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Beverley was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, Benjamin and Elsie Vig, an infant son, Dale and two sisters, Eloise Olson and Elaine Rabel.
