Bonnie Drinkwitz

Bonnie Mae Dunnum, daughter of Quentin and Joyce (Tanquist) Dunnum, was born April 29, 1948 in Alexandria, Minnesota.  She grew up in Mt. Vernon, Washington and Morris, Minnesota.  She attended grade school and graduated high school in Morris.  She later attended the University of Minnesota Morris where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education and music.  Bonnie was an English and Speech teacher in Elbow Lake and Cyrus, Minnesota.  Her students were very special to her.  She was a reader, studier of books, and current events.

In her earlier years, Bonnie was a gifted athlete.  She played on several softball teams and made many great friendships along the way.  After 20 years in education, Bonnie became a cook in Morris.  She moved to Minneapolis, where she was a cook and assistant chef at Minikahda Golf Club, Golden Valley Golf Club and Eden Avenue Grill, until her retirement.

Bonnie moved back to Morris in 2018 to assist and be near her father, who had moved into assisted living.  Bonnie enjoyed working on the family house, getting to know the great neighbors and reacquainting herself with her hometown of Morris. Bonnie was a contributing member of the Humane Society in Minnesota.  She was a cat lover and owner.

Bonnie’s last days were spent at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.  She passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of 72.

Bonnie’s family would like to thank the Courage Cottage staff who took such wonderful care of Bonnie, The Staff of Knute Nelson Hospice for their guidance and care and to the hospital providers and staff at the Stevens Community Medical Center.

Bonnie’s family request that memorials be directed to the Courage Cottage in Morris or the Humane Society of Minnesota in memory of Bonnie.

She is survived by her father, Quentin Dunnum of Morris; three sisters: Nancy (Tony) McDunn of Farmington, Robin Sheehan of Bolingbrook, IL and Tracy (Howard) Huebner of Fargo, ND; three precious nieces and one nephew: Tara (Peter), Tami (Manuel), Kristen, and David (Katie); her many wonderful friends and two dear great-nieces and one dear great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Dunnum.

Memorial services for Bonnie will be held at a later date.  Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
