Claire Moen

Funeral services for Claire Moen of Starbuck will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Claire Simon Moen, son of Simon and Helen (Finbraaten) Moen was born September 26, 1943 in Madison, Minnesota. He grew up and attended country school and later graduated from Milan High School in 1961. Following his schooling, Claire helped his father on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Opdahl on April 25, 1964 at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. The couple made their home on a farm near Appleton, MN where they raised their family of two sons and one daughter. Claire continued to farm until his retirement. In 2002, the family bought a lake home near Starbuck, MN where he continued to live until the time of his death.

Claire was a board member of Farm Credit Services in Madison, MN for many years and was a board member of Rural Electric Co-op. Claire also served as trustee at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, owning eight fish houses. He enjoyed playing buck euchre at the Starbuck Card Room, gardening and potting flowers, maintaining his deer hunting plot, and riding motorcycle in Minnesota and Arizona where he spent many winters.

Claire died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota at the age of 72 years.

He is survived by his wife: Sylvia Moen of Starbuck; two sons: Jonathan (Jennifer) Moen of Aitkin and Justin Moen (girlfriend: Megan Royer) of Boston, MA; daughter: Jennifer Moen of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother: Brad Moen of Milan; sister: Colleen Rhodes of Willmar; brother-in-law: Howard Opdahl of Starbuck; sisters-in-law: Elaine (Ken) Klose of Staples and Margaret Smith of New York Mills; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Bruce Moen and niece: Kelsey Rhodes.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
