Delores Muriel Veenendaal, daughter of Frank and Mabel (Gilbertson) Rodgers, was born on July 20, 1920 in Parshall, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Parshall. Her family moved to Minot, North Dakota in 1935 and she completed her high school education at Minot High School. Delores began working for Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator in Minot following her high school graduation. She often recounted how the entire switchboard lit up with calls the morning that Pearl Harbor was bombed.

Delores was married to Dean Veenendaal on February 14, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Minot. The family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota when their son Rodger was two years old. Daughter Jeannie was born two years later. Delores was employed by Edina Public Schools for the majority of her working career, spending much of that career working in the district office.

Throughout her 96 years of life on earth, her faith in Jesus never wavered. From watching her daughter struggle with complications from diabetes to losing her own mobility due to multiple sclerosis. Delores consistently faced challenges by relying first on faith in God, second on a positive attitude, and third on her always present sense of humor. Delores loved to give to and serve others. One of her favorite hobbies was baking, so friends, neighbors, and family were frequently blessed with gifts from her kitchen. Some of her family's favorites included apple dumplings, krumkake, Swedish kringler, and butterhorn rolls with blueberry-rhubarb jelly. Delores also enjoyed sports and was a faithful follower of the Minnesota Twins, Gopher hockey and especially Edina Hornets hockey.

Delores was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday morning, July 31, 2016 at Westwind Village in Morris. She is survived by her son Rodger (Melody) Veenendaal of Morris; three grandchildren: Lia (Fred) Selck of Washington DC, Greg (Lacey) Veenendaal of Maple Grove, and Keri (Luke) Pollard of Ottertail; seven great-grandchildren: Graham and Emery Selck, Liam, Eliana and Baby Veenendaal, and Alexandra and Isaiah Pollard.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean, her daughter Jeannie, her sister Jeanne, and six nephews. Her family praises God for her legacy of steadfast faith, generosity and service to others.

Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
