After graduating from Morris High School in 1957, he joined the Navy and came back home on a hardship discharge to help with the family farm.

Eugene met Darlene Raddatz in 1960 and they were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dumont, MN on September 5, 1964. They celebrated their 61st anniversary a couple weeks ago.
