Florence Swenson

Funeral services for Florence J. Swenson of Starbuck, will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Reverend Todd Klemme will be officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Minnewaska Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck.

Florence Jeanette Aaberg, daughter of Hans and Clara (Dokken) Aaberg, was born June 6, 1919 in Starbuck, MN, where she grew up and received her schooling. She was also baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Florence was married to Wallace Haugen, and this union was blessed with five children: Richard, Shirley, James, David and Diana. The family made their home in the Hancock area, where Florence continued to live and raise her children. In September 1972, Florence was united in marriage to Arnold Swenson. The couple lived on a farm in the Starbuck area, where they remained until retiring from farming. At that time, they moved to a home in Starbuck, where they lived until Arnold's death on February 19, 1997. Florence has continued to live at various locations in Starbuck since that time, most recently as a resident of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home since August 2010.

For many years, Florence had been an active member of West Zion Lutheran Church near Hancock. After moving into Starbuck, she became an active member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed taking part in their ladies bible study. Florence had also been active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Starbuck, but her favorite hobby had always been playing BINGO.

Florence passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 93 years. May God bless and keep our dear Mother in heaven and in our hearts forever.

She is survived by four children: Shirley (Noel) Hanssen of Fridley, James (Diane) Haugen of Blaine, David (Ella) Haugen of Blaine and Diana (Ken) Bogie of St. Anthony; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruby (Ervin) VanKempen of Starbuck and Bernice Cretilli of Glenwood; one brother, Norman Aaberg of Blaine and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Arnold Swenson and Wallace Haugen; one son, Richard Haugen; four sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers for the service are Florence's Grandchildren: Todd Hanssen, Alex Bogie, Ben Bogie, Alyssa Bogie, Cheryl Burcheri, Shelly Gray, Cory Haugen, Tara Drew, Dustin Haugen, Scott Flannigan, Todd Flannigan, Debra Pike and Deanne Landru.
