Frank Wiese, Jr. was born on April 9, 1925 in Moore Township, Stevens County, Minnesota to Frank Sr. and Marie Sophie (Koscovich) Wiese.  He was raised in the Hancock area.  Frank was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock.  He received his schooling in the Hancock school district and graduated with the Hancock High School class of 1944.  In July of 1944, Frank enlisted with the United States Navy.  Upon completion of his tour, he returned to Hancock; where he farmed with his Dad and brothers.  On July 26, 1946, Frank was united in marriage to Gertrude Eckstein, to this union, three daughters were born.  In 1953, they moved from the farm into town where Frank and Gert purchased the Skelly Station, renaming it Wiese Oil.  Frank was a life-long Hancock resident where he owned and operated Wiese Oil until his retirement.

In high school, Frank played baseball, where he excelled at the sport.  He went on and played with a Benson team where he was paid and was also later offered a minor league contract with the Superior Blues, a Chicago White Sox affiliate.  After Frank was done playing baseball, he continued his passion by managing the Hancock Orphans Baseball Team.  Frank was also an avid reader.  He loved to sit in his “big chair” with the grandkids and read the newspaper and watch sports, especially the Minnesota Twins.  Frank also enjoyed taking the kids down to the lake and teaching them to skip rocks, something that has passed on for generations.  Frank was a member of the Morris American Legion and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Frank died peacefully on Monday, July 09, 2018, at the West Wind Village in Morris; he lived to 93 years of age.
