Funeral services for Gary Berg, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, Minnesota, with Reverend Dr. Jeremy Berg and Minister Don Swenson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck, Minnesota.

Gary Mark Berg was born in Starbuck, Minnesota, the last of four children to Clifford and Anna (Aaberg) Berg on February 17, 1960. He was raised in Starbuck where he was baptized and confirmed at Fron Lutheran Church and began his education. When Gary was in 7th grade, the family moved to a farm south of Starbuck. Gary graduated with the Starbuck High School, class of 1978, he attended Alexandria Community College for Welding and later Granite Falls Vocational School for Machine Shop Tool and Die. In 1983, he moved to Mound, Minnesota, and began his career with Entegris as a tool and die maker and later a supervisor. In 2005, Gary moved back to Starbuck, and lived on his hobby farm south of Starbuck until 2005, when he decided to moved to Chanhassen to be closer to accessible medical clinics when his health complications began to progress.

Gary was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, and would also help with maintenance at the church and was involved in the Fron Cemetery Board. He also liked traveling around the US, by car and motorcycle; Gary also participated in several Hospice rides over the years and enjoyed cruising around the lake on his motorcycle. Some of Gary’s other hobbies included: fishing and hunting, gardening – which included sharing his bountiful harvest with friends and family, dancing, especially line dancing to country music and attending his singles dance group in Mound, and spending as much time as possible with his family and friends. Gary was always so upbeat with a positive attitude, he was a planner, and made sure that everyone knew it!

Gary died Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, in Rochester, Minnesota. He was 65 years old.

Gary is survived by his siblings: Carol Westrud of St. Louis Park, Curtis (Eileen) Berg of Mound, and Linda (Pat) Abram of Maple Grove; six nieces and nephews: Jason (Mary) Berg, Jeremy (Kjerstin) Berg, Jennifer (Adam) Morris, Daniel Westrud, Christine (Brian) Kale and Keith (Tasha) Abram; twelve great-nieces and nephews: Hailey, Mackenzie, Peter, Anna, Isaak, Abigail, Gracie, Nolan, Amelia, Jonah, Jordan and Elli; aunts: June (Ray) Messner of Hancock, Delores Aaberg of Glenwood, Deloris Olson of Hutchinson, Rita Berg of St. Louis Park, and Arla Berg of Starbuck. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford and Anna Berg; brother-in-law: Larry Westrud; aunts and uncles: Arthur Aaberg, Melvin (Darlene) Aaberg, James (Alvida) Berg, LaVonne Berg, Eugene Berg, Orville Olson, JoAnn (Edwin) Rode, and Ardis (Alvin) Hoverud.

Memorials are preferred to Fron Lutheran Cemetery fund. 

Starbuck Funeral Home is in care of arrangements for Gary.
