Graveside services for George E. Anderson, of Morris, Minnesota, will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Vinger Cemetery, rural Donnelly, with Reverend Rochelle Anderson officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.
George Edwin Anderson, son of John and Hazel (Thompson) Anderson, was born May 14, 1943, in Morris. He grew up on the family farm outside of Donnelly and attended District 39 Country School. In 1961, he graduated from the former West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. George was united in marriage to Shirley Busenga. They had two sons together. He later was united in marriage to Margaret Hadler on December 13, 1980, gaining two daughters and another son. They had two additional daughters together.
George served as a member of the 1st Battalion, 136th Infantry Regiment, Minnesota Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6. He was proud to say that he served 28 years, two months and 14 days, part of this time as a ski instructor. George also served a short period as a volunteer with the Morris Fire Department. In 2000, he retired as a senior plot technician after 32 years with the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center. In retirement, he worked at the former Coborn’s in Morris and Gibson Liquid Waste Removal of Cyrus. George enjoyed farming, woodworking, fixing cars, hunting, fishing and planting trees. He loved chatting with family, friends and everyone he knew. He always had a joke and a smile.
George died on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Stevens Community Medical Center. He was 82 years old.
George is survived by his children: Matthew (Brenda) Anderson of Otsego, Bryan (Cheri) Hadler of Richmond Hill, GA, Christine (Bill) Miller of Bismarck, ND, Carrie Hadler (Kevin West) of San Francisco, CA, Kadee Anderson of Morris, and Megan (Joel) Baranko of West Fargo, ND; 16 grandchildren: Brady, Ryan, Heather (Blake), Jonathan, Cameron, Colin (Haley), Teagan, Jaden (Allison), Sydney (Cody), Cloey (Brody), Eleanor, Amelia, Ashton, Tyla, Vivian, and Julia; 8 great-grandchildren: Wally, Zowie, Julian, Caelyn, Cohen, Cooper, Nash, and Madden; brothers: John ‘Bud’ (Lois) Anderson of Donnelly, Arthur Anderson of Morris, and Howard (Betty) Anderson of Morris; sister, Judy Anderson of St. Joseph; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; son, Tyler Anderson; brother, Duane Beers; sisters, Janice Kaehler and Geraldine Barber; and friend, Margaret Simonson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be given in George's name to local Veteran's Charities.
