A visitation for George Hickman, of Barrett, formerly of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris.  Burial will follow with military honors at 1:30 p.m. at the Summit Cemetery in Morris.

George Edward Hickman, son of Henry and Blanche (Dickson) Hickman, was born on December 6th, 1934, in Morris, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm south of Donnelly, and graduated from Morris High School. George joined the Army on June 19th, 1957, and was honorably discharged on March 22nd, 1959. Most of his service was working army tanks.

He was united in marriage to Carol Dorothy Hadler on April 25, 1961. The couple lived and farmed in the Donnelly area for many years. George was a very hard worker driving for several years for Heinrich Trucking in Morris and finished his career with Riley Brothers.

Back in the day, George enjoyed playing cards with the Hadler family and hunting & fishing with the "boys". So many memories including many "escapades" in the ice house. He loved anything fast which included lots of flashy motorcycles and his pride and joy – a 1960 Plymouth Fury. George and Carol were always together spending countless weekends traveling around and staying at various cabins with the kids on many different lakes. In the early 80s they purchased a lake place on Big Pine Lake near Perham. Countless visitors and neighbors shared in tons of amazing memories there. In 1994, they moved the lake place to Upper Pomme de Terre near Elbow Lake to be closer to the grandkids. Many great family moments took place there including driving with the grandkids checking on the turtles. George loved spending time with family and especially his grandchildren: Dylan, Amber and Henry. Despite his "gruff" exterior he had a heart of gold with a special soft spot for kids and animals.

George died peacefully on February 15th, 2024, at the Barrett Assisted Living Center in Barrett. He was 89 years old.

He is survived by his son, Edward (Sadie Monson) Hickman of Chokio; daughter, Deann (Jason Fjeld) Recker of Morris; two grandsons: Dylan (Kayla) Recker of Zimmerman and Henry Hickman of Chokio; one granddaughter, Amber (Patrick) Egdorf of Brooklyn Park; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Schultz of Benson and Beatriz Hadler of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carol of 51 years; his son Mark; his parents, Henry and Blanche Hickman; two sisters: Lois (William) Manney and Doris (Michael) Kjenstad; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edna and Alfred Hadler; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-laws: Wallace & Margaret Hadler, Darrell & Vionne Hadler, Harlan Hadler, and Dennis Schultz.
