Gorden Conrad Block was born on July 3, 1922 to Reinhart and Mary (Hagen) Block on a farm in Pope County. He was baptized August 11, 1922 and confirmed on July 28, 1935 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Reverend Gustave Pilgrim. When Gorden was two years old, the family moved to the Block farm in Swan Lake Township in Stevens County. He attended grade school at District #40 for eight years.



Gorden farmed all his life on the Block farm. He enjoyed the farm animals and wildlife. In later years, he painted outdoor buildings for people in the community. In 2001 he moved to Grandview Apartments in Morris and then to the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center in June, 2004.



Gorden was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and later Nora Lutheran Church in Kensington. He was an avid reader he particularly enjoyed reading books by Zane Grey. When he was younger he enjoyed trapping muskrats. He built machine sheds for his nephew's toy machinery and doll houses for his nieces. He enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.



Gorden died on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.



He is survived by one sister: Marvel Koehntop of Morris; one nephew: Randy Koehntop of Morris; one niece: Doraine (Randal) Graff and their children: Amber and Nathan Graff of Austin and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.



Pallbearers for the service are: Randy Koehntop, Duane Hagen, Jerome Hagen, Orvie Hagen, Floyd Wilberg and Donald Skogstad. Honorary pallbearers are Roy and Elmer Jesness and family and friends. Marlene Maanum will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.



Memorials are preferred to Nora Lutheran Church in Kensington and the Stevens County Historical Society.
