Joyce Pieske

The funeral for Joyce L. Pieske, of Alberta, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, with Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, one hour prior to services at the church in Alberta. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Joyce LaMay Schnobrich, daughter of Fred and Clowie (Jenkins) Schnobrich was born on September 21, 1934 in Stately Township in Brown County, Minnesota. She grew up and attended a country school 2 miles from home and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1952. Joyce was united in marriage to Luverne Pieske on November 16, 1954 at the Stately Lutheran Church in rural Sanborn. The couple moved near Donnelly, Minnesota and began farming. In 1956, they purchased a farm near Alberta, where they continued to farm until retiring in 2013. Along with her friend, JoAnn VanEps, Joyce started the Morris Farmer’s Market and the town’s first clothing bank. The Pieske’s milked cows for over 20 years, raised small grains and corn and had goats, chickens, geese and turkeys.

Joyce received certification from the University of Minnesota Morris as a master gardener. She loved working her large gardens on the farm. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and knitting. Joyce was an exhibitor for over 50 years at the Steven’s County Fair, where she was grand champion many times. She was a great baker and known for her purple ribbon jelly rolls. Joyce was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta. She was an active member of the Legion and V.F.W. auxiliaries, holding many offices through the years.

Joyce died on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. She was 82 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Luverne, Alberta, MN; one son, Curtis (Missy) Pieske, Andover, MN and a daughter, Karen (Art) Tierney, Barnesville, MN; and two grandchildren, Lincoln and Mack Pieske. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
