Katherine Hedberg

Katherine Ann Hedberg, age 73, passed away in her Minneapolis home on November 1st, 2018 from complications of Basedow’s Disease.

Kathy Hedberg was born March 11th, 1945 in Cokato, Minnesota to Clifford and Florence Hedberg (née Erenberg). In 1956 she moved to Morris, Minnesota with her family when they founded Radio Station KMRS.  She graduated from Morris High School with the class of 1963 as Co-Salutatorian. She then attended the University of Minnesota, Morris for two years. She transferred to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 1965. During her Junior year, she traveled to Aix-en-Province, France, where she lived with a French family. She returned to St. Olaf, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in French. Kathy taught at the French House on the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus for two summers. She also taught French at Breck School in Minneapolis. In 1973, Kathy moved to San Francisco and then to Los Angeles where she worked as an Executive Secretary for 1 1/2 years.

In the early 1980’s, Kathy and her friend Carl Bernards had a comedy show (“Almost Live”) on a local Twin Cities channel. They hired stand-up comediennes, Kathy directing the show, while Carl sold advertising. In 1980, Kathy became Assistant to the Curator for Decorative Arts at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. It was during this job that Kathy developed her passion for fine art. She designed beautiful brochures for the exhibitions at the Institute, where she remained for eleven years.

Kathy is survived by daughter Fanni Ibrahim of Coon Rapids, sister Alice Hedberg and niece Anoki Hedberg of New York City, brother Paul Hedberg and wife Julie of Naples, Florida, and their two children. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, Morris, Minnesota.  A memorial service for Kathy will be held in the spring at First Lutheran Church in Morris.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
