Kevin Roy Flicker, 73, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on April 18, 2026 after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Kevin was born September 16, 1952, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, to Jerome and Lydia (Welle) Flicker and grew up in Rochester. A fourth-generation Minnesotan, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1974, where he met Judy Collins. They were married on September 10, 1977, in Morris and built a life grounded in creativity and simplicity with their children Joe and Tressa.

In 1985, Kevin apprenticed with master potter Richard Bresnahan at St. John’s University. He began teaching ceramics at UMM in 1987 and continued until his retirement in 2017, guiding many students toward advanced art studies and professional paths in the arts. In 2003, he and his students built UMM’s first wood-fired kiln from largely donated and recycled materials. After retirement, he continued making pots in his basement workshop.

Kevin exhibited widely but was most fulfilled creating affordable, high-quality functional pottery for his community, often using locally gathered materials. Friends, family, and collectors across the United States will continue to cherish the pots he made.

Kevin lived simply and close to nature. He loved tent camping with his family and owned and tended a tree farm in Sebeka. A naturalist and minimalist, he heated his home with wood he chopped himself and took great joy in Judy’s homemade meals, often with ingredients they grew in their gardens. He was a skilled carpenter who built their Craftsman-style home using reclaimed materials.

His legacy will live on through his art, friendships, his five grandsons, and the many lessons he shared as an artist, teacher, and friend. Kevin will be remembered for his gentleness, kindness, generosity, unmistakable laugh, and his playful whistle.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Joe (Michele) Flicker; daughter, Tressa (Sean) Wyner; grandchildren, Jaxen and Alexander Flicker, and Atticus, Winston, and Rex Wyner; sister, Paula (Robert) Fisher; brother-in-law, Garry Clum; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sheryl Clum; and infant brother, David.
