L. Halverson

June 24, 1915 — July 3, 2005

LeRoy Edwin "Bud" Halvorson, son of Hans and Nina (Olson) Halvorson was born on June 24, 1915 in Starbuck, Minnesota. He attended country school and worked on the farm growing up. Bud was united in marriage to Josephine Rud on December 15, 1934 at the Fron parsonage in Starbuck. He worked for Starbuck Cement Products for over twenty years and for Nodland Construction until his retirement. He was proud of helping build missile silo's in North Dakota.

Bud was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Forty Niners Union. He was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed working on cars, pheasant hunting, watching professional boxing and wrestling, serving as chauffer for anyone who needed a ride and occasionally trying his luck with pull tabs. Bud also enjoyed sitting on the corner street bench with his friends, conversing and watching the activity of Starbucks Main Street. He will be remembered as quiet, kind, gentle man, a good listener and storyteller. Above all, Bud was proud of his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Bud died on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 90 years.

He is survived by his children: Janice Erickson of Brooklyn Center, Margie Vincent of St. Louis Park, Lorna (Bill) Pederson of Mauston, WI, Larry Halvorson of Elk River, Dianne (Harvey) Pederson of Starbuck and Gary Halvorson of Starbuck; Nine grandchildren: Kathy Lange, Steve Erickson, Matt Pederson, Paul Pederson, Josh Pederson, Stacey Pederson, Brenda Carlson, Leah Newton and Michael Halvorson; Eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters: Clarice (Louie) Hanson of Starbuck, Olive (Roy) Berens of Benson, Lorraine Tibbetts of Minneapolis and Bernice (Ed) Aaberg of Starbuck; several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents: Hans and Nina; wife: Josephine; brothers: Harold, Marvin and Donald; sister: Carol Ann Mathies; one infant son; son-in-law: Harvey Erickson and grandson: Michael Scott Erickson.

Pallbearers will be Bud's grandchildren: Steve Erickson, Kathy Lange, Brenda Carlson, Matt Pederson, Paul Pederson, Leah Newton, Mike Halvorson, Josh Pederson and Stacey Pederson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bud's great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service, with Ron Hanson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
