Lavon Anderson

Memorial services for Lavon “Vonnie” Anderson of Glenwood, MN will be Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Indherred Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lavon Betty Anderson, daughter of Harry and Selma (Bremer) Ihnen, was born March 14, 1930 in Harris, Iowa. Vonnie grew up and attended school in Round Lake, Minnesota, graduating from high school in 1948. She was united in marriage to Marvin Anderson on September 2, 1950. In 1954, the couple moved to Willmar, where Vonnie worked for Jennie-O Foods as a USDA Inspector. In 1997, she moved to the Glenwood area, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.

Vonnie was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Willmar. When she moved to Glenwood, she was active volunteering at “Meals On Wheels” and she also belonged to the “Order of the Eastern Star”. Vonnie enjoyed doing crafts, quilting, sewing, gardening and fishing. Over the years, she traveled to Alaska, Germany, and many areas of the United States.

Lavon died on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood, Minnesota. She lived to 87 years.

She is survived by her children: Vani (Michael) Phelps of Lakeville, Vicki (Michael) Keith of Savage, Michael Anderson of New Folden, Verna (Fred) Midbrod of Silver Bay, Mark (Jolene) Anderson of Clear Lake and Valora Carlson (Jim Hoffmann) of Svea; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother: Earl Ihnen of Glenwood; two sisters: Jolene (Puz) Munholand of Cross Lake and Karen Koubsky of Alexandria and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; great-granddaughter: Mya Carlson; great-grandson: Jayden Kelley; two sisters: Phyllis Holle and Florence Torguson; sister-in-law: Alpha Ihnen and brothers-in-law: George Koubsky, Don Keller, Chet Torguson and Sylvester Holle.

The family prefers memorials are given in Vonnie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
