Leona Joyce (Magnan) Aaberg passed away on September 12, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 16, 1949 to Elsie and Leon Magnan in Brainerd Minnesota. Leona grew up in New Brighton and Minneapolis MN along with her 10 siblings. She attended the Vocational High School where she met her future husband, Steven Aaberg. Leona graduated in 1967 and married Steven on May 25, 1968. Together they built their dream home in 1971 in Soderville MN where they raised their three children, Stephanie, Scott and Sandra.

They retired and moved to Starbuck MN where Leona became involved in multiple community programs. Leona was very involved with the Starbuck VFW Women’s Auxiliary where she enjoyed working the Bike Rodeo and Christmas Care. She was also very involved with many activities at Fron Lutheran Church. Such as the Harvest Supper, Jello Fest, Cookie Stroll, Sarah’s Harmony and the Fron quilting group. She was also a member of the Bit-N-Pieces quilting group. Leona was a talented quilter, she sang like an angel and was super witty. Her faith in Jesus was inspiring.

Her care team from Glacial Ridge Home Care and Hospice were amazing. Treating Leona with such care and love.

Leona is survived by her children Stephanie (Bill) Piette, Scott (Darlene) Aaberg and Sandra Jones. Grandchildren Saera, Tanner, Andrew, Kiera, Erika and Jacob. Great Grandchildren Paisley and Grace. Siblings Frances, Mary Helen, Susan, Nancy, Martha, Leslie Jo, Julia, and Joseph. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Perry, sister Pauline and son-in-law David Jones.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in whichever way you wish including plants (Leona’s favorite), flowers, cards or donations made to Glacial Ridge Home Care and Hospice.
