Leona Mitchell

February 7, 1915 — November 5, 2005

Leona Mae Domek, daughter of John and Emma (Benson) Domek, was born February 7, 1915 in Ashton, Iowa, where she was baptized on February 15, 1915 at St. Mary's Church. At a young age, her family moved to the Hancock area, where she grew up on a farm with her three brothers and seven sisters and attended country school. On November 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wilbur V. Mitchell. Since Wilbur was in the military, they traveled extensively throughout their lives. They lived in Colorado, Germany, Washington, Oregon and California. Leona worked mainly in the restaurant business throughout her life. Before retiring to Hancock, she worked for American Forest Products in Stockton, California.

Leona loved traveling, especially to California and Oregon to visit her son, Don and his family. She also traveled to Hawaii, Branson, MO and various resorts in Minnesota with her family. She was an active member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her sister, Marion and watching her special TV programs she called "Her Stories".

Leona died on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 90 years.

She is survived by her son: Donald (Carol) Mitchell of Redmond, OR; grandson: Bart Mitchell of Seattle, WA; sisters: Marion Sax of Hancock, Dorothy Roberts of Battle Lake and Lucille Domek of St. Cloud and brother: Donald Domek of Moorhead. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters: Ruth, Irene, Arlene, Arlette and brothers: Roy and Raymond.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests donations be made to the SCMC Courage Cottage in Morris
