Funeral services for Lorraine Halbe of Morris will be Monday, May 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris, with Pastor Donald Main officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Lorraine Sophie Podtburg, daughter of John A. and Louise Elizabeth (Buntje) Podtburg, was born January 23, 1925 in Synnes Township.  She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Lorraine attended Country School District #37 until her family moved to Morris when she was 10 years old.  She then attended Longfellow Elementary and graduated from Morris High School in 1944.  Following her schooling, Lorraine worked at National Tea Grocery, Juergenson’s IGA and Lindrud’s Variety all in Morris.  She was united in marriage to Sheridan Halbe on January 30, 1950 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris.  The couple made their home in Morris where they raised their two children, Jimmy and Jane.  Sheridan passed away March 27, 2010.  Lorraine continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.

Lorraine was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, where she served as past president. She enjoyed gardening, walking, canning, sewing, traveling with friends and family, watching the Minnesota Twins and attending events of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine died on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the Courage Cottage in Morris. She was 96 years old.

She is survived by two children: James (Cathi) Halbe of Morris and Jane (Larry) Swenson of Morris; three grandchildren: Tara (Steven) Beck of Fargo, Kristen (Max) Martin of Morris and Taylor (Joshua) Whiting of Alexandria; six great-grandchildren: Ellery Beck, Greta Martin, Lyla Whiting, Miles Beck, Owen Martin and Millie Whiting; sister: Viola (Arland) Sperr of Cokato and sister-in-law: Olga Podtburg of Princeton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheridan; her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; infant sister; siblings: Harvey, Lloyd, Lewis (Dorothy) and Lester Podtburg, Louise (Gary) Anderson and Mercida Blaskowski and brother-in-law: Philip (Leona) Halbe.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS ARE PREFERED TO THE COURAGE COTTAGE, BARRETT CARE CENTER, ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH AND THE CANCER SOCIETY
