A memorial service for Mark is being planned for a later date in the Spring, arrangements are in the care of Starbuck Funeral Home
Mark Alan Beutler, 71, of Starbuck, MN, passed away at Essentia Health on Tuesday, December 27, 2025. He was born in Appleton, MN, on February 20, 1954, to beloved parents Bernard and Joyce (Andersen) Beutler.
Mark grew up in Appleton, where he graduated from high school. Growing up, he was always active in assisting his parents on the farm, he loved tending to the cows, always gravitating more towards caring for the animals than the crops. Mark always had a love for animals, and a deep love for his family, his parents and his siblings. He was born the second oldest, and cared for the younger ones and their children as if they were his own.
Mark worked on the family farm in Appleton until they decided to sell in 1975, at which point the family moved to a farm in Starbuck, MN, which is still there today operating under a different family name. Mark was a farmer, always dressed in jeans, a T-shirt, or coveralls approaching any and every task, even if Mark didn’t know how to fix something, he never backed down from a challenge and figured it out.
In 1993, Mark’s niece and nephew, Jane and Justin, came to the farm to live with him. He was very active in raising them, and they loved Mark like a father. Mark also cared for his mother until she passed away in 2016. He had a great sense of humor, was quick witted, and showed his love by picking at his family, which they gladly picked back. If at any time, anyone in the family needed to come back home, the door was always open. Towards the end of Mark’s life, Jane got the opportunity to return that care she received from him as a child, and made it her personal mission to ensure Mark had one more Christmas. While Mark was in the hospital, she decorated his room so that if he woke up, he’d know he was cared for, loved, and that she had been there; and she was there, every step of the way until he passed.
The family will never forget the smiles Mark put on their faces. He will be deeply missed by them, and everyone who knew him, but also by the animals he loved, like Butterball who would jump on top of his walker and hitch a ride around the house. Mark’s warm personality and loving spirit, will remain in the hearts of those left to mourn him.
May God Bless the Memory of Mark Alan Beutler.
Mark is survived by his siblings: Bonita Cherry, David Beutler, Alice Beutler, and Julie Johnson; Nieces, Jane Engel, and Lisa Gaffney; Nephews, Justin Johnson, and Andrew Fruhling; and 12 great nieces and great nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Bernard Beutler; his Grandparents; as well as his Aunts and Uncles.
