Gathering of family and friends for Marleen Irene Nelson of Donnelly, MN will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.

Marleen Irene (Hood) Nelson, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota, surrounded by her immediate family.

She was born on March 25, 1952, in Morris, MN, a daughter of Warren and Martha (Oberg) Hood. On October 12, 1974, she married Herbert Leonard Nelson at First Lutheran Church in Morris. She attended 1-year cosmetology school and then owned her own salon for a brief time in Alberta, MN. Her second career of being a paraprofessional started in Chokio-Alberta School District, and then in the Morris Area School District where she would later retire from.

Marleen was a giving person, who was always concerned for the well-being of other's - she would give the shirt off her back to someone in need. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. The farm in Donnelly and the lake house in Park Rapids were some of her favorite places to be. She was a great cook and her grandkids always looked forward to the snacks they got from grandma's house. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Herb of Morris; children, Andrea (Mike) Maanum of Sauk Rapids, Darren Nelson (Kate) of Crosby, Lori (Justin) Anderson of Donnelly; grandchildren, Dylan and Madison Maanum of Sauk Rapids, Owen and Evan Nelson of Crosby, Taylor Anderson of Donnelly; sister, Avis Johnson of St. Cloud; nephew, Jason Dalum, as well as several extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by, her parents, Warren and Martha; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Judy Nelson.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff and care teams of SCMC Dialysis Unit and Oncology Department for their care with Marleen in her later days.
