Mary Gades

Funeral services for Mary Gades of Morris, MN will be Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Reed Stockman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfield Township near Holloway, MN.

Mary Isabelle DeBolt, daughter of Lonnie and Beatrice (Hall) DeBolt, was born May 25, 1926 in Alban Township in Grant County, South Dakota. She was baptized on April 23, 1931 by Rev. Lundgren and confirmed on September 29, 1940 by Reverend Frank. In 1945 Mary was re-confirmed as an adult by Reverend Meichsner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township, Holloway, Minnesota. On March 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to Wilbert Gades by Reverend Ernest Willie in Bellingham, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed in Swift County until 1956, when they moved to Swan Lake Township. Mary and Wilbert continued to farm until 1993, when they retired and moved to Starbuck, Minnesota. Wilbert died on November 12, 2014. Mary moved to West Central Homes in November 2014, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

At a young age, Mary enjoyed singing current songs of the day and Sundays in church. She was very active at Swan lake Church, teaching Sunday school, where one of her students became a Lutheran Pastor. She also helped Wilbert farm by driving the grain trucks, putting up the garden for the winter months and fixing all the wild game that Wilbert brought home. She also enjoyed crafts, quilting and embroidery. Over the years, Mary spent many hours developing the families’ genealogy profiles.

Mary died on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at West Central Homes in Morris. She was 92 years old.

She is survived by her four sons: Barry (Donna) Gades of Morris, Edwin (Diane) Gades of Woking, AB, Canada, Dwight (Florence) Gades of Cyrus and Neil (Barbara) Gades of Cyrus; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Gerald (Kristie) Gades of Leon, WV, and Roger (Marlene) Gades of Montevideo; four sisters-in-law: Shirley Gades, Phyllis Harste, Lyndell Lindahl, and Sharon Gades all of Morris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Wilbert Gades; her parents; her twin brother: Merle; two sisters: Pearl Wehrli and Patricia Bevard; one grandson: Derek Strom and one daughter-in-law: Elda Gades.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials given to charity of choice. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
