Oliver Christiansen

The memorial service for Oliver Christiansen, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Donald Main officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Oliver George Christiansen, son of Edwin and Iva (Mullins) Christiansen, was born April 3, 1924 on the family farm in Darnen Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris, MN by Reverend Duehlmeier. Oliver attended District 47 country school thru the 8th grade and later graduated from Alberta High School. Following his schooling, Oliver worked for the railroad, which took him out to Montana for several years before returning to Morris, MN in 1950. On November 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Amelsberg. The couple made their home in Scott Township where they farmed until the late 70s. Oliver worked at Cenex for several years before he started at the University of Minnesota, Morris in the athletic department on the janitorial staff. In 1996, he retired and enjoyed spending his days working around his century farm.

Oliver was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and most of all spending time and visiting with his family.

Oliver died on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at his home, having lived to the age of 91 years.

He is survived by his wife: Betty Christiansen of Morris, MN; six children: Wanda Kemper of Bozeman, MT, Gail (Philip) Harpstead of Morris, MN, Mike Christiansen of Castlewood, SD, Wendy (Bruce) Kleespie of Portage, WI, Cheryl Christiansen (Dan Schulte) of Harris, MN and Hope Christiansen (Aron Bragg) of Baraboo, WI; 11 grandchildren: Shannon (Randall) Lundgren, Kari (Phillip) Seibel, Jason (Timiry) McCaskell, Kyle (Amber) Harpstead, Sadie (Danny) Coons, McKinsey (Adam) Gazapian, Kolby Harpstead, Haley (David) Rawsthorne, Tanner McCaskell, Kendra Harpstead and Devon Schulte; 18 great-grandchildren: Cadence and Regan Lundgren, Emma, Becca and Noah Seibel, Everly McCaskell, Kayley Johnson, Logan, Jasper and Paetyn Harpstead, Bella and Dexter Coons, Amelia and Raelyn Gazapian, Myles and Reese Rawsthorne and Kyler and Logan McCaskell; sister: Lyla (Les) Cin; brother: Lyle (Donna) Christiansen; step-granddaughter: Jami (Ryan) Kaiser and step-great-grandchildren: Addison, Bryce and Celise Kaiser. Oliver is preceded in death by his parents and brother: Kenneth Christiansen.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
