Orlin Swensrud

Orlin Eugene Swensrud, son of Elmer and Agnes (Moe) Swensrud, was born on the family farm on July 29, 1938 in Blue Mounds Township in Pope County , Minnesota , where he grew up and was baptized on September 10, 1938 by Pastor Casper Johnsoy. Orlin began country school at Blue Mounds Township . He later went to Starbuck High School , graduating on May 31, 1956. Following his schooling, Orlin began working at the Cenex Coop as well as working for Walter Amundson Trucking. On February 22, 1964, he was united in marriage to Annette Berg at Bethany Lutheran Church , rural Starbuck. Following their marriage, the couple took over the family farm in 1969 and raised their four children. Annette died on June 5, 1975. Orlin continued farming and on June 4, 1977, he was united in marriage to Eva Bodin at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Orlin retired from farming in 1988 but began working on a turkey farm and later began weaving rugs.

Orlin was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.

Orlin passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at St. Josephs Hospital in St. Paul , MN , having lived to reach the age of 71 years.

He is survived by his wife: Eva Swensrud of Starbuck; four children: Michele (DeLoren) Swanson of Albertville, Kurt (Lisa) Swensrud of Starbuck, Kim Swensrud of Starbuck and Kevin Swensrud (Bobbi Tyson) of Glenwood; one step-son: Michael Bodin (Robin Skow) of Larimore, ND; 10 grandchildren: Russell Swanson, Melissa Swanson, Zachary Mattison, Kyle Swanson, Alicia Swensrud, Tyrel Swensrud, Dylan Swensrud, Myranda Swensrud, Samantha Swensrud and Alex Bodin; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ione Showalter of Glenwood and Judy (Alvin) Kadrmas of Bismarck, ND and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; an unborn child and his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are: Zach Mattison, Kyle Swanson, Tyrel Swensrud, Brian Showalter, Leslie Moe and Daryl Barsness. Shari Opdahl will serve as organist for the service with Vic Vatthauer serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is handling the arrangements.
