Rose Haugen

August 26, 1927 — July 31, 2017

Rose Marie “Rosie” Haugen, long-time Morris and Fergus Falls resident, died Monday, July 31, 2017 at Stevens Community Medical Center.  Rosie was born August 26, 1927 in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Magdalena Schiels Schwan and Steven Schwan.

Rosie grew to adulthood in Devils Lake and married Freeman Haugen in 1947; the couple moved to Morris, Minnesota in 1952 where they raised their five children.  Rosie worked at Bon Jos for many years, first in Morris, eventually moving to Fergus Falls to manage the Bon Jos store until she retired.  Rosie loved flowers and never one to sit still for long even in retirement, Rosie went back to work for a Fergus Falls florist.

The ultimate great mom, friend, and customer service person, Rosie shared her love, infectious laughter, and comfort with family, friends, and strangers unconditionally.  Family love often manifested itself in shared cookies, cakes, bread and, especially, in the Schwan family’s hot dill pickles (coveted by her kids and grandchildren with some enthusiastic converts among extended family add-ons).

Rosie loved to play poker with her friends (often into the wee hours), fishing on Deer Lake, and bowling.  She was an avid Twins fan, in good years and bad, their schedule posted right next to the TV.

Rosie will be greatly missed by her children: Bill (Sara) Haugen, Kathleen Haugen, Paul Haugen, Daniel (Sandy) Haugen, and Jude (Roger) Claussen and her eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.  Rosie is also survived by her brother Dennis Schwan and sister Marian Alvestad

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Veronica Schwan and Amelia Senger; brother: Mike Schwan; sisters-in-law: Doreen and June Schwan and Ione Vanderlin and brother-in-law: Bob Alvestad.

Rosie had a love for life and a deep faith, strengthened through her life-long connection with the Catholic Church.  Rest in peace, Rose Marie.

A private service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 .
