Suzanne Ritter

Suzanne “Sue” Ritter of Morris passed away surrounded by her family Saturday, Sept. 19 while hospitalized in Fargo following a valiant battle against cancer. She was 74.

A funeral Mass for Suzanne Ritter of Morris, will be held Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, with Fr. Todd Schneider officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 23, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at St Mary’s Cemetery, rural Chokio.

Suzanne Virginia Ritter was born January 16, 1952 to Vincent and Virginia Ritter at Graceville Hospital. She was baptized at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Chokio. She graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School in 1970.

She lived in Morris most of her life, most recently at Tigerwood Home, and is well known around the city as a loving, caring and fun individual. She knew no strangers. She loved making her crafts which she gifted to her many friends and family. Christmas was her favorite holiday since it meant she was giving out presents and listening to Christmas music.

Sue loved working at the Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) and vowed she would never retire. Previously she worked at Pizza Hut, University of Minnesota cafeteria, Country Kitchen and the Villa of St Francis.

She spent most of her weekends at the Ritter family farm north of Chokio where she loved the farm animals, especially the cats, along with gardening, yard work and helping in the kitchen.

Sue also loved taking vacations to places like Branson, MO and Nashville, field trips to Chanhassen Dinner Theater and Valley Fair, bowling, camping, exhibiting her crafts at the county fair and movie nights with her housemates. She loved dressing up for Halloween and going to dances. Her colorful and crazy socks were her trademark fashion style. She participated in Special Olympics competing in track and field events.

She was preceded in death by her father Vincent Ritter, and sister-in-law Kathy Ritter.

Sue is survived by her mother Virginia Ritter of Chokio, and six brothers, Stephen (Toni Lucas) of Buffalo, MN, John (Roger Holmin) of Lebanon, TN, Dale (Gail) of Morris, Dan (Jane) of Oak Harbor, WA, Mark (Julie) of New Prague, MN, and Patrick (Donna Brandt) of Chokio; many nieces, nephews and cousins; all her dear family which was the center of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue’s memory may be sent to If Wishes Were Horses or the Courage Cottage, both in Morris.
