Blanche Howey

Funeral services for Blanche Howey of Chokio will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Our Saviora�(TM)s Lutheran Church in Chokio. Reverend Gloria Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Blanche Artis Golden, daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Hogan) Golden, was born April 28, 1922 in Kerrick, Minnesota, where she grew up and was baptized on July 2, 1922 at Church of St. Michael. Blanche attended Kerrick High School, graduating in 1940. While attending school, Blanche participated on the cheerleading squad. On September 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lynn Harlen Howey in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in East Central Minnesota until 1948, when they moved their family to the Chokio area, where they continued to farm until their retirement. Following their retirement, Blanche and Lynn traveled to many places and would winter in Mesa, Arizona, where they acquired many new friends. When Lynn died in 2000, Blanche moved to Mesa , where she continued to make her home until 2008. She then moved to the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, Minnesota, where she continued to make her home until the time of her death.

Blanche was a member of Our Saviora�(TM)s Lutheran Church in Chokio, Ladies Aid, Homemakers Group and Farmers Union. She later became a member of Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. Blanche enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, journaling, reading, listening to music, gardening and dancing. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Blanche died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Community Memorial Home in Osakis, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.

She is survived by seven children: Spencer (Connie) Howey of Chokio, Joyce (David) Buntje of Osakis, Karen Meltzer of Oakland, CA, Alan (Karen) Howey of Rogers, Vern Howey of Chokio, Debra (Basel) Evans of Rogers and Adrian Howey of Rochester; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Dorothea Howey of Minot, ND; two brothers-in-law: Merrit Plumb of Bruno and Lynn McCann of Rochester and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lynn; grandson: Brett Rutten; granddaughter: Brianne Evans; her parents; one brother: Warren Golden; two sisters: Dorothy Anderson and Marjorie Budd and two sons-in-law: Jeff Meltzer and Gene Sorenson.

Pallbearers for the service are Blanchea�(TM)s grandchildren: Cassie Myrin, Darren Swanson, Corey Swanson, Kristi Howey, Michelle Elletson, Derek Howey, Bryce Evans, Craig Howey and Marissa Evans. Audrey Erickson will serve as organist for the service with Bryce Evans providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials will go to Alzheimers research.
