Morris

Memorial services for Carolyn Ann Miller of Morris, MN will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake.  Father Jeremy Ploof will be celebrating the mass.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at St. Loretto Catholic Cemetery.

Carolyn was born on July 1, 1940, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls Minnesota.  She lived in Wendell, Minnesota, with her mother, Helen Miller, and her father, Ivan Miller.   Carolyn enjoyed many good times with her brother, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and family.  Her father died in December 1969.  She lived with her mother for several years in their home in Wendell.  Carolyn and her mother moved to an apartment in Elbow Lake.  She was a good companion to her mother and helped her with many household tasks.  In 2009, Carolyn’s mother passed away.

Carolyn came to live in a Prairie Community Service home in Barrett called Steffen Home in 1999.  She quickly fit right in and made friends with everyone. In 2001, Carolyn and her housemates moved a few blocks away to a newly built house, Crosswood Home.

Carolyn was always ready to take part in any activity, whether it was a dance, shopping trip, bingo, church or craft show.  She was always excited to go places.  She loved to go to the Confidence Learning Center every summer. She was a star fisherman and excellent pontoon driver. Her favorite part was singing around the campfire.  She knew the words to almost every song.  She had the opportunity to go on several trips during the years she was at Crosswood including Florida and New York City. Getting to meet all the Disney characters was a highlight.  She also enjoyed activities at home.  She loved putting puzzles together, helping in the kitchen, doing crafts, and singing.  She could be seen many evenings watching re-runs of I Love Lucy or The Golden Girls and maybe once in a while an Elvis video.  Carolyn lived with several of the same ladies for 20 years.  Her housemates were like sisters to her. Last spring Carolyn moved to another PCS home in Morris, Ravenwood.  She quickly fit right in there and met new friends.

Through the years Carolyn had many staff that assisted her and she held a special place in their hearts. She was never demanding or unkind to anyone.  Carolyn always wanted to please people and wanted to do everything right. She had a pure heart and cared for others.  When someone was ill or had any problems she would tell them “I pray for you.”  Carolyn will be missed beyond measure.

Carolyn passed away on October 12, 2021, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris Minnesota, with her brother, Larry, and his wife, Bettie, by her side.  She was 81 years old.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Larry and his wife, Bettie of Stillwater; her nephew, Tom and his wife Maura of New York City, NY; and her niece, Julie Roettger of Stillwater; great-nieces and great-nephews: Declan and Desmond Miller and Mark, Erik, and Anya Roettger.  She is preceded in death by her parents.
