Carroll "Cal" Erlandson

Memorial services for Carroll “Cal” Erlandson, of Cyrus, Minnesota will be private.

Carroll Dean Erlandson, was born in Cyrus, Minnesota on January 31st, 1940. He attended Cyrus schools and graduated from high school in 1958. He attended Minneapolis Business College and served two years in the United States Army. He was employed as an auditor for International Multifoods for a number of years and then moved to Cross Lake where he worked as a carpenter for a couple of years. He finished his employment years with Morton Buildings working as a foreman until his retirement.

Cal was an outdoorsman, a bird hunter and an avid fisherman. He often shared fresh fish with the residents of Cyrus. He was a fun and favorite uncle of the nieces and nephews.

He was considered by many to be the unofficial historian of Cyrus. He was the go-to person for answers on the community’s history and spent much time in City Hall reading through the minute books.

He will be remembered for his kindness, outgoing cheerfulness and willingness to stop and chat and for lending a hand to anyone who needed it.

Carroll (Cal) Dean Erlandson passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 26th at the age of 81.

He is survived by three brothers: David (Ann) of Brainerd, Kenneth (Janet) of Alexandria and Clayton (Annette) of Monticello and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold (Peggy) Erlandson and Ethel Gunvalson; stepfather: Victor Gunvalson and two sisters: Marilyn Schreiner and Kathy Scheuss.

Per Cal’s request there will be no public service. Memorials preferred to Minnewaska Lakes Association and Minnewaska Lutheran Home.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
