Lloyd Marlin Olson was the last of ten children born to Albert and Annie (Halvorson) Olson on August 4, 1938 in White Bear Lake Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  He grew up in the Starbuck-Lowry area where he attended Country School District #32 through the 8th grade.  Lloyd was baptized on October 24, 1938 and confirmed on May 11, 1952 in the Lutheran faith at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck.  Lloyd was a proud serviceman, enlisting into the United States Army in March of 1956 and serving until his honorable discharge in August of 1964.  Following his military service, he began farming and continued for the next 45 years, raising livestock and grain.  He also spent many years doing custom harvesting for local farmers, heading down south to combine wheat.  Lloyd was married and had three children: Marlin, Dawn and Nancy.  On July 2, 1998, he was united in marriage to Beverly Wooley.  They continued to make their home near Lowry.  After his retirement, they moved to Arizona for a time before returning to Pope County.  Beverly preceded Lloyd in death on March 16, 2016.

Lloyd was a lifelong member of Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck where he was an active member, especially the Men’s breakfast group.  Some of his hobbies included: fishing, car races, traveling, tinkering and fixing things – including his last project, a 1929 John Deere Unstyled D; and harvesting wheat.  Most importantly, Lloyd cherished the time that was spent with his family.
