Marlene Madge Carlson Vogel was born December 22, 1931, in Norcross, MN, to Lester and Madge (Drexler) Carlson. Marlene was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. She grew up attending a country school through eighth grade and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. Marlene completed a secretarial course at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. She worked in Alexandria, Denver, and Fargo. Marlene took great pride in her skills and speed with typing and dictation.

Marlene was united in marriage to Donald Vogel on November 24, 1956. She worked at Otter Tail Power in Fergus Falls, then transferred to Morris after moving there. Marlene was a loving daycare provider for more than 20 years. Marlene and Don delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the local food shelf. She was active in church and homemaker activities and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Club. Marlene and Don had many friends and enjoyed dinner and dancing every Friday night for several years. They also belonged to a dance club at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood.

Marlene’s gift of hospitality was well known. She loved to cook and bake and entertain friends and family at their home. In her younger days, she sewed many clothes for her daughters and her mother. Throughout her life, Marlene loved to shop and always looked her best from head to toe. A social butterfly, she was always “ready to go anywhere.” She continued to make friends after moving to Skyview Assisted Living in July 2017, and again after moving to the nursing home. She loved all the activities there, from baking, crafting, to playing games. Marlene’s greatest love was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marlene passed away on August 3, 2022, at the age of 90.

She is survived by her children: Lisa (Michael) Stein of Moorhead, Michelle Vogel of Burnsville, Chris (Becky) Vogel of Morris, and Joni (Dan) Hagstrom of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren: Emily (Matt) Ojanen, Adam Stein (Autumn Kraft), Sarah Stein (Jacob Eddy), Alec Stein, Tony Vogel, Courtney (Danny) Grout, Kaitlin Vogel (Ben Strombeck),  Chandler Vogel, Justin Hagstrom and Brandon Hagstrom (Mackenzie Lee); four great-grandchildren: Finn and Hallie Grout, Henri Ojanen, and Oliver Eddy Stein; brother: Lynn (Robin) Carlson and sister-in-law: Mary Carlson.
