Myron "Mike" Warner

Memorial services for Myron “Mike” Warner of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.  Burial will be held at a later date at Sunset Cemetery in Montevideo, Minnesota.

Myron “Mike” Rudolph Warner, son of Rudolph and Agnes (Piipke) Warner, was born March 16, 1931 on his grandfather’s farm in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota.  He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Omro Township and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Boyd, MN.  He attended rural schools in Lac Qui Parle County and high school in Boyd, graduating in 1949.  He attended the University of Minnesota in 1949 and 1950.  He enlisted in the National Guard at Dawson, MN in January 1951 and served on active duty in the US Army from January 16, 1951 until he received a release to return to college in August 1952.  He served another four years in the National Guard before receiving his discharge.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1955 from the University of Minnesota in Agriculture Education, teaching 33 years until retirement in 1988.  He was united in marriage to Margaret Wik on June 23, 1956.  Mike and Margaret were married for 63 years.  Before moving to their Minnewaska Lake Home in 1989, he was active in scouting, church activities, Montevideo Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee and Chamber events, FFA and received the American Farmer degree.  After moving to Starbuck, Mike and Margaret joined Fron Lutheran Church.  He did seasonal inspecting for Minnesota Crop Improvement Association and after retirement was an adjuster for Dawson Hail Company.  He served on Pope County COLA (Coalition of Lakes) Board as secretary, charter member of MLA (Minnewaska Lake Association) and Starbuck Lions.  He was an ardent hunter and fisherman, teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt, fish, boat, snowmobile, water-ski and play cards.  Mike and Margaret loved to travel with their children in their younger days, taking many trips throughout the USA.  After retirement they spent over twenty winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.  His hobbies included golfing and stained glass.

Mike died on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, MN at the age of 88.

He is survived by his wife: Margaret of Starbuck; two sons: Timothy (Patricia) Warner of Champlin and Thomas (Kristi) Warner of Montevideo; one daughter: Kristin (Leif) Olmanson of Eagan; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Dustina) Warner of Leander, TX, Jesse (Alissa) Warner of Montevideo, Aaron (Kelsie) Warner of Brainerd, Joshua (Jessica) Warner of Montevideo, Anders Olmanson of Eagan, Britta (Nick) Holmin of Eagan and Bjorn (Olivia) Olmanson of Eagan; eleven great-grandchildren: Kyra, Rain, Taiton, Jaxon, Becca, Elle, Petra, Esme, Piper, Tennyson and Keeley; one brother: James Warner of China and one sister: Dorothy (Donald) Olson of St. Paul.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Melrose Jarner.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
